The primary mission of Ciencia Para Ellas is to enhance the participation of women in scientific exchange programs from Latin America to the United States.
We aim to advise and mentor young women that want to apply for a research visit in one of the many universities and research institutions across the United States
Ciencia Para Ellas provides both a guiding hand in the career and education of our young women scientists as well as direct logistical support in their travel arrangements and living accommodations as they journey abroad.
Visiting and doing research in a first-world country is an invaluable experience for any student, particularly for a student of advanced hard sciences. It not only provides access to enhanced resources, such as laboratory equipment and computational power that may not be readily accessible in Chile, but also allows the student to interact directly with renowned academics and other PhD students in their area of interest. In many cases, the personal contacts made in these early formative years opens the door for future international collaborations upon graduation, facilitating both work in academia and research in the private industry.
Founder, Dr Junia Melin is a Chilean native that graduated with a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Chile, who he now resides and works in the US. Her field of research is computational and theoretical chemistry, working in her early years with advanced molecular simulation techniques to build mathematical models which provided an enhanced understanding of chemical reactions. Dr. Melin has personally experienced the challenges and benefits of studying and working abroad, therefore, she has made it her life's mission to extend these opportunities to other women scientists and empower them to thrive in their own journey.
